The Federal Government yesterday launched 20 high-capacity buses, powered by Compressed Natural Gas, to ease the transportation burden of civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, who launched the buses in Abuja, said this was to improve civil servants’ welfare.
She said for civil servants living with disabilities, arrangements had been concluded with private sector operators to acquire customized buses that would be “wheelchair accessible”.
She said the scheme was being implemented in collaboration with private sector operator, FEMADEC Group.
Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, OHoCSF, Ngozi Onwudiwe, said that the pilot phase of the scheme would commence across six routes in the FCT.
The permanent secretary, represented by Director, Federal Integrated Housing Scheme, Uchenna Obi, listed the routes as: Karu-Jikwoyi/Orozo/Karshi, AYA/Nyanya/Mararaba/Ado/Masaka, Berger/Kado/Gwagwa/Karmo, Kado Estate/Gwarimpa, Airport Road and Kubwa/Dutse Alhaji.
