The federal government yesterday inaugurated the rehabilitated 1.62km internal access road at the Nigerian Institute for Oil palm Research (NIFOR) in Benin City.
Inaugurating the road, the minister of Works and Housing said the federal government has completed 29 out of the 43 road intervention projects within tertiary institutions across the country.
Represented by the Federal Controller of Works, Edo State, Ademola Aransiola, the minister said the road intervention projects were critical to improving the learning environment as well as the quality of education.
He said of the 29 completed roads, 17 were handed over in 2020.
Earlier, the acting Executive Director of NIFOR, Celestine Ikuenobe, said the road rehabilitation has made it easy to convey seedlings and other palm produce from the institute to different destinations.
“Before this intervention, the main access road to NIFOR’s main station measuring about 6km, was in a state of total disrepair, negatively impacting our service delivery to the palm industry.”
