FG hands over erosion control projects to communities

The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Mrs HabibaLawal, has urged communities to put into proper use, the Federal Government’s infrastructures under their care so as to avoid wasting national resources.

She made the call over the weekend at the commissioning and handover ceremony of erosion control work on the drainage at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Kaduna State, a statement said.

Dr Lawal urged the benefitting communities to take over and assume ownership of the project for its proper maintenance and sustainability.

She also commended the collaborative efforts of the benefitting communities in ensuring that the contractor finished the work on time.

In his remark, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, who commissioned the project on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, said the project was one of the 18 intervention projects awarded in April, 2017.

He said the project was awarded considering its socio-economic importance to the people.

Speaking on behalf of the benefitting communities, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Professor Ibrahim Garba, expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunity given them and promised that the community would guard the facilities jealously so that they could fulfill their intended purposes.
