The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has said no fewer than 4,133 residents of Ekiti State have benefited from the federal government’s cash grant loan to vulnerable groups and other social investment interventions.
The beneficiaries included widows, divorcees, youths, retirees, disabled and displaced persons selected from various communities and settlements across the 16 LGAs of the state.
In her speech during the flag-off ceremony held in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Hajiya Sadiya described the programme as a National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) by the President Mohammadu Buhari-led administration designed to specifically give a lifting hand to many of the poorest and vulnerable citizens of Nigeria.
Hajiya Sadiya said the programme was one of the fulfilments of President Buhari’s manifesto introduced in 2020 aimed at sustaining the social inclusion agenda on the poor consistent with his compassionate and deliberate national agenda of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.

She noted that the programme had no political colouration as the 4,133 beneficiaries were carefully selected from across the 16 LGAs of the state and that they would start receiving credit alerts from their banks.
Earlier, Governor Mr Biodun Oyebanji noted that the SNIPs of the federal government had been in existence since 2019, particularly the school feeding programme.
