President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Michael Shonubi, a quantity surveyor, has said the federal government is encouraging quackery by withdrawing funding for professional bodies.
Speaking to newsmen on the forthcoming biennial conference slated for November 24, 2023, in Abuja, yesterday, the president said with the withdrawal of funding for the bodies, it would be difficult to regulate the practice of the professions, adding that this comes with dire consequences for the economy.

Shonubi said, “The Government said it is not going to fund the professionals. I do not know how those bodies are going to survive. There is inadequate support for the body that it (government) created. So it is like the government is even encouraging quackery indirectly.
“Part of the challenge we have as professional bodies in Nigeria is enforcement and implementation. As a matter of fact, there should not be building collapses in Nigeria.”
