The aged persons recei-ved N25, 000 each while the discharged juvenile offenders were empowered with N30, 000 each.
Madam Charity Orji, an elderly woman expressed gra-titude to the ministry saying many older persons are in dire need of support.
She called on government to continue to empower the vulnerable groups from time to time so more people will benefit.
Minster of Women Affairs and Social Deve-lopment, Hajiya Zainab Maina during the pre-sentation of the dona-tions said the older persons empowered include those who have retired and those too old to fend for themselves as well as those who need support to start little businesses to take care of themselves.
She said in Nigeria support for the aged have continued to decline due to the prevailing socio-economic crises, the breakdown of the extended family support system for the old and the rural /urban migration of the younger gene-ration for greener pastures.
The Minster said the discharged juvenile offenders have not been treated well too as they often experience isolation, marginalization and stigmatization even when they are adjudged to have turned a new leaf.
