The Federal Government has empowered 27 refugees from Cameroun, Chad, Niger, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic among others who have spent two years undergoing some training in the country.
The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq flagged-off the distribution of skill acquisition empowerment materials, running into millions of Naira, for the Persons of Concerns (POC) at their base in Nyanya Gwandara, Karu LGA, Nasarawa State on Monday.
She said the gesture was possible because of the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari and the assistance of Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
“The empowerment programme which, items we have distributed is part of our overall transition solution initiative that would build up the multi-year self-reliance for the displaced people. The empowerment programme is also to preserve the skills and productive assets that displace people carry with them.
“The programme also aimed at transforming the displaced women and men to be self-reliant in giving them ability to meet their essential need and enjoy social and economic rights in a sustainable and dignified manner in the environment they found themselves,” Farouq said.

The migrants were trained in catering, bread pastry making, cosmetology and beauty therapy, interior and outdoor decoration, generators, computer operations, fashion and garment making and dye among others.
Items distributed include laptops and computer accessories, grinding machines, deep freezers, dryers, cylinder and gas cookers, bakery accessories and sewing machines among others.
A representatives of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Mr Hanson Ghandi, commended the federal government for the efforts, saying they hope the migrants would soon return to their countries of origin or be fully integrated into the society they lived in.
Mr. Ben Mbaya-Mulenda from DR Congo and Ms Chickindira Ghandi from Cameroun among others expressed their gratitude to the Federal Government and pledged to be law abiding.
