FG, Ebonyi to construct 2,000mw power plant

Speaking at a technical meeting between with officials of both governments in attendance, at the Federal Ministry of Power headquarters in Abuja, the Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, stressed the ministry’s readiness to ensure quick completion of the project.
Wakil directed the officials to report to his office monthly progress to be made on the project, noting that “in no distant future, the project will become a reality.”
Wakil said the transmission infrastructure that will guarantee the evacuation of 1,000mw was already in place.
The facilities included 2x60MVA, 132KV, sub-station at Amasiri – Afikpo and 2x132Kv line by extension at Abakiliki and the Abakaliki – Amasiri 132Kv DC line.
He assured that facilities that would evacuate the other 1,000 mw capacity would be put in place before the project is completed.    
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi, who led a 7-man delegation of Project Consultants, American and Korean investors to the meeting, said the project is dear to the people of Ebonyi State, seeking the support of the ministry to complete it as scheduled.
Elechi, noted that on completion, the IPP will boost businesses and also give power to the national grid.
