The federal government has distributed relief materials to flood victims in Sokoto state.
It also distributed cash to rural women in the state.
Flagging off the distribution, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq said the gesture was meant to provide succour to the victims.
“We are here to commiserate with you on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari who has been disturbed by your plight.
” The President also directed us to provide you with relief materials and also support our rural women with N20,000 each to start up business,” she said.
According to the minister, 150,000 women would benefit from the grant nationwide.
She urged the beneficiary to use the money for the purpose of which it was meant for.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Talen advised women to safeguard their children against abuse.
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), NEMA Director General, AVM Muhammad Alhaji Muhammadu (rtd), listed the items distributed which include, bags of maize, rice, beans and palm oil.
Others were, cartons of tin tomatoes, seasoning, blankets, roofing sheets and mattresses among others.
The Secretary to the state Government, Sa’idu Ubandoma thanked the federal government for the gesture.
