FG commences disbursement of UBEC funds to 1, 147 schools

The federal government has commenced the disbursement of funds to 1,147 schools through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to improve the quality of basic education in the country.  

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu stated this Monday in Gombe during the national flag-off of the ‘Northern Phase of the 2019 School-Based Management Committee-School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP)’ and disbursement of UBEC support fund. 

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, he said the programme was community-based and stakeholder-driven, which requires collective approach from all stakeholders for its successful implementation.

The minister stated that the SBMC-SIP was initiated to provide financial support to communities in the planning, execution and ownership of priority basic education delivery projects in their schools. 

Earlier, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Hamid Bobboyi said the event was a deliberate community engagement aimed at establishing result-oriented mechanism for quality basic education delivery in Nigeria, through the SBMC.  

He said the SBMC-SIP intervention had ensured the implementation of over 2,442 projects across the country, using the 2017/2018 SBMC-SIP fund.
