FG boosts rural electricity with new mini grid

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the federal government is making eff orts to decentralize the provision of electricity in the country to make it accessible for all.

The minister, during the commissioning of a 352.24Kwp solar hybrid mini-grid yesterday in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, said accessibility to power by rural dwellers is important to stem

urban migration and grow the economy of rural areas.

The project was executed under the Rural Electrification Agency (REA)’s Nigerian Electrification Project

(NEP) in partnership with Powergen and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Adelabu, while noting that everyone deserves electricity, said the government seeks to open pathways to economic

growth and prosperity of the rural communities through off -grid power as part of the  desire to improve the wellbeing of all Nigerians. He explained that reduction of the energy cost is important to reduce the

cost of commodities in the country.

On his part, the Managing Director of REA, Engineer Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, said the project is Nigeria’s

first interconnected Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid Plant connecting 2,000 homes in the community.
