The Federal Government has launched the sale of farm inputs for this year’s dry season farming in Nasarawa State.
In his speech at the event in Lafia, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono said, “The initiative was part of efforts towards harnessing the agriculture sector for economic growth.
“About 200 dry season rice farmers in the state are to benefit from the intervention, which include assorted fertilizers, herbicides and rice seeds,’’ he said.
The minister was represented by a director, Hajiya Karima Babangida, who said the intervention was a deliberate effort aimed at checking food scarcity during the COVID-19 period.
Governor Abdullahi Sule noted that the state government would continue to take advantage of the rich agricultural endowment in the state to strengthen collaboration with the agro-allied private sector to reduce unemployment.
A beneficiary and state chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Mr Samuel Meshi, commended the Federal Government for the gesture and stressed the need for adequate security, especially in rural areas to allow farming activities thrive.
