FG approves 7 broadband infrastructure licenses

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved broadband infrastructure licenses for the six geopolitical zones and Lagos.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ engagement forum held in Kano on Thursday.

Prof. Danbatta explained that the Commission was committed towards implementation of broadband with a view to improving internet service nationwide.

He said the service would be improved to at least 1.5megabytes across the country.

He, however, said some mega cities such as Lagos and Port-Harcourt could attain more than 1.5megabytes.

The vice chairman said the essence of implementing the broadband was to ease electronic services such e-banking, e-medical services and improved internet services.

He said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was committed towards implementation of broadband services.

“Continuous internet growth will transform virtually every aspect of our life and will improve the nation’s GDP. Government will implore necessary measures to achieve the set objectives,” he said.
