FG appoints Prof Idachaba as NBC acting DG

The Federal Government has appointed Prof Armstrong Augustine Idachaba as Acting Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

He was appointed following the suspension of Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu.

In a letter dated February 14, 2020, and signed by Deaconess Grace Isu Gekpe, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Professor Idachaba, as the most senior Director in the National Broadcasting Commission, is to oversee the affairs of the Commission.

Idachaba, born on 16th July 1962, in Kaduna, Kaduna State obtained his first degree in 1985 from the University of Jos in Theatre Arts, Master’s in Theatre Arts, also from the University of Jos in 1993, and a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Abuja in 2008. He hails from Kogi State.

He also undertook executive management courses from Georgetown University (2003) and Kennedy School, Harvard University (2016).

He worked, from 1986 to 1996, as a lecturer and the head, department of English and Theatre Arts, at the College of Education, Ankpa, Kogi State. He also worked as a Features Writer for the Nigerian Voice Newspaper; Artiste and Presenter for NTA Makurdi, and; Director Movies Theatre Promotions, from 1986 to 1990.

Idachaba joined the National Broadcasting Commission as an Assistant Chief Research/Monitoring Officer on grade level 13 and assumed duty in 1st November, 1994. He rose to become the Zonal Director of the then Umuahia Zone, Zonal Director Uyo, Zonal Director, Abuja, and Zonal Director, Lagos. He was also the Director, Broadcast Monitoring, at the Headquarters.

Until his appointment as Acting Director General, Prof  Idachaba served as the Director, Broadcast Policy and Research.

He has published several paperbacks on Media, Digital Technology, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Regulation. He has, and continues to, make contributions to the Commission’s Monitoring and Research activities.
