The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) said it has repaired over 102 kilometres of failed roads across three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe in the last two months.
Leader of the team, Dr Mansur Hamma-Adama, who disclosed this after inspecting a repaired portion in Gombe Saturday, said the failed roads were recovered through the ‘Operation Connect to Your Destination in North East II sub-region.’
He explained that the ‘Connect Your Destination’ initiative is held annually at the end of the year to enable motorists coming back for the holidays to have easy movement during the yuletide.
According to him, the project is being handled by the Direct Labour Unit of the FERMA in each of the six geo-political zones of the country.
- Corrupt governance responsible for insecurity —Shettima, northern govs
- Only 10 of 149 deputy govs took over from bosses since 1999
Dr Hamma-Adama, therefore, called on the motorists to be patient with the agency, saying they are doing their best to repair all washouts portions and portholes on highways across the country to make them motorable.
On his part, acting Zonal Director of FERMA in North-East II, Engineer Irikefe-Eugene Baror, said the operation to connect the road campaign was geared towards making the roads motorable.
