Femi Kuti returns home, receives car as birthday gift

Nigerian afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti, was given a warm surprise welcome by his family, friends and fan. The surprise was in form of a belated birthday celebration for the world-renowned musical instrumentalist.

Born Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti on June 16, 1962, the musician missed celebrating his birthday this year with his family as he was on tour. However, upon his arrival, his family and friends organised a surprise party and gifted him a brand new car, among other items as birthday gifts.

Sharing videos of the moment, his sister, Yeni Kuti via her Instagram handle captured where family, friends, and fans were celebrating his return as they sang a birthday song.

She also captioned the video, “ Welcome back the king of Afrobeat.”

Appreciating the kind gesture, the 60-year-old music legend said some prayers and gave thanks to his ancestors for a successful tour.

Giving a welcome party speech, on behalf of the family while presenting his gifts to him, including the car, his elder sister, Yeni Kuti said, “We have missed you, you have been away for so long, so we all planned the surprise for you. This is the official handover of your birthday present.”

Also, the musician’s ex-wife, Funke; and son Made were also present at the welcome party

Femi Kuti is the eldest son of afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and a grandchild of the late Nigerian political campaigner, women’s rights activist and traditional aristocrat, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
