Daily Trust - FEMA trains staff on disaster management

FEMA trains staff on disaster management

Declaring the two-day workshop open in Abuja, the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Idris Abbas, noted that with the training of its staff, the foundation of the agency has been laid, stressing that re-orientation of the staff will further equip them to face the task ahead.
Abbas revealed that the training was a fallout of the workshop organized in Kaduna a couple of weeks ago that produced a working document for the FCT Emergency Agency on emergency response plan, even as he appreciated the efforts of UNICEF in ensuring that the emergency response document came to fruition.
He therefore tasked the participants not to play politics with emergency issues, noting that nobody survives with the misfortune of another person.
According to him, “the issue of disaster management should not be politicized because it touches on human existence. The training of our personnel by the UNICEF goes to show that the foundation for takeoff has been laid and we are prepared to tackle emergency situations. I want to assure you that the FCT Emergency Management Agency will be the leading agency in Nigeria.”
One of the participants, Ukachukwu Victoria, expressed preparedness to handle emergency issues based on the knowledge received from the training.
The training focused on the basic concepts and terms used in emergency management, understanding the principles of FEMA and the responsibilities of the agency as a coordinating agency.
