Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have all been re-elected to the ATP player council, while the first three months of the men’s tennis 2021 season has finally been confirmed.
Federer and Nadal returned to the council in 2019 after a string of resignations under then-president, Novak Djokovic’s regime, while Murray rejoined after a host of players involved in forming the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) – including Djokovic – were urged to step down.
Djokovic had hoped to be part of the new-look council but was forced to withdraw from the race due to his ongoing role in the PTPA.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, Kevin Anderson, John Millman and Bruno Soares were also re-elected, while Gilles Simon returns to the council having served previous terms.
Pablo Andjar and Marcus Daniell will serve their first terms, while Colin Dowdeswell and Daniel Vallverdu will be the alumni and coach representatives.
The president and vice-president of the council will be decided in its first meeting in 2021 and the group will be in post until June 2022.
The Australian Open, as expected, has been pushed back to the second week of February, while a shortened ATP Cup will start on February 1.
Indian Wells is the biggest casualty of the opening stint of the season, although alternative dates are being assessed for the tournament to take place later in the year.
Murray will be involved in the first week of 2021 after receiving a wildcard to Delray Beach. He has also been handed a wildcard for the Australian Open.
