Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that only indigines of the state would determine the outcome of the forthcoming election and not federal might as being speculated in some quarters.
Ortom made the remark while opening a two-day seminar organised for traditional rulers by the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Makurdi.
He assured indigines not to be afraid because there were no such thing as federal might deciding for the Benue people.
“It will be state might that will determine election here not federal might. There is no federal might coming to do anything in Benue but it is state might that will supervise elections here. So, don’t be afraid,” he said.
The governor urged the traditional rulers not to allow any politician use their subjects or their children as thugs in the build up to the next month general elections.
He emphasised the need for an election devoid of malpractices, pointing out that, if he looses in a free, fair and credible election, he would concede defeat and go back to his farm.
