The rehabilitation of schools and the training of teachers in the North East will soon be boosted by a 3-billion-naira federal support package. Education in the region has suffered severely from the impact of the insurgency with several schools destroyed or decrepit, thousands of school-age children displaced and out-of-school, and much needed manpower having fled at risk areas or been lost in the hostilities. The sum which will be released by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) under the authority of the Federal Ministry of Education will also fund the establishment of vocational training and skill acquisition centres in the affected states.
