The Committee of Federal Polytechnic Rectors (COFER) has unanimously elected the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Daura, Katsina State, Prof. Aliyu Mamman as its Chairman.
Prof Mamman was elected at COFER’s 33rd regular meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday.
His tenure will take effect from 15th May, 2024, when the outgoing chairman, Engr. Dr. Yahaya M. Bande, Rector, Federal Polytecnic, Kaura-Namoda, will bow out.
The COFER Secretary, Godwin B. Ayegba in a statement said until his election, Prof. Mamman was the vice-Chairman of COFER and will hold the post of the Chairman until his tenure as Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Daura expires next year.
He said COFER, which operates under the umbrella of COHEADS, is a platform that enables Rectors of all Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria exchange ideas, experiences, difficulties and other matters of common interest through meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
Also elected is Dr. Suleiman Muhammad Lame, Rector Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, Gombe State as Vice-Chairman. Engr. Dr. Taofeek A. Abdul-Hameed, Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State tenure as Treasurer remains.
Others are Dr. Felix U. Attah, Rector, Akanu-Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi State appointed COFER South-East Zonal co-ordinator.
He noted that the others zones already have zonal co-odinators, which include Dr. Sabo Wada Dutse, Rector Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, North-West; Dr. Akinde Mukail Aremu, FCA, Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, South-West; Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, Rector Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, South-South; Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman, Rector Federal Polytechnic, Idah, North-Central and Dr. Mohammed Usman, Rector Federal Polytechnic Bali, North-East.
According to him, the body offer a formidable voice to ventilate, within the ambits of the law, informed views and opinions on matters regarding tertiary technological education in Nigeria and management of Polytechnics, promotes and facilitates co-operation amongst member Polytechnics and between Rectors and staff
