The Federal Executive Council Wednesday approved a new security measure making it compulsory for all federal public institutions that embark on any ICT project up to the tune of N1bn to obtain a quality assurance certificate from the National Information Technology Development Agency.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ali Pantami, said the certificate that must be obtained after the completion of the government digital services project was meant to ensure that it was carried out according to specifications.

“The reasons for introducing this layer are many, but some of them like number one, we discover the sometimes an approval or clearance could be granted in the cost of implementation, some of the specifications will be changed and if there is no quality assurance certificate, we will not be able to know whether the project is implemented according to the clearance or not.”
The minister said over N24bn was saved by the federal government through the initial provision that made it mandatory for all federal public institutions to obtain IT Project Clearance from NITDA before embarking on ICT projects.”
Meanwhile, Laolu Akande, the spokesman of the vice president, said the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, Mele Kolo Kyari, told the council that about 1.9 billion liters was available to last for 32 days.
