The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Monday morning, removed the popular Apo tipper garage in Apo District of Abuja.

The joint taskforce also removed  shanties, illegal shops, mechanic shops, food sellers’ stands, building materials shops, and impounded some abandoned trucks and vehicles.

City & Crime reports that the impounded vehicles were towed to the VIO office.

The Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, who led the team, said the clearance became imperative because the site was a major interchange connecting all the ways to the Kubwa axis.

“The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, at the weekend took a tour around Guzape District to check developmental work and ensure the work gets to an advanced stage within his tenure.

“When he was going round, he came across this very bad sight at Apo tipper garage by Apo NEPA.

“He instructed that the garage be removed first thing on Monday morning, and that is why we are removing them.”

One of those affected, Muhammad Ali, lamented that he had been selling building materials in the area for over 15 years.

“If you want peace, then we have to obey what the government says. Our duty is to obey the constitution, but we are not happy, this is our livelihood, and we have families that we are feeding. I don’t know where I am to go,” he said.
