The FCT Fire Service, in collaboration with the Abuja Market Management Limited, on Tuesday, launched a campaign on fire safety in markets in the nation’s capital.
The launch, which involved sensitisation and demonstrations on fire safety, was held at the Wuse Market.
City & Crime reports that market women, artisans, traders, among others, took part in the demonstrations on ways to put out fire.
Acting Director of the FCT Fire Service, Engr Abubakar Saidu, advised the traders to always put off their electric appliances before leaving their shops.

He also advised market managers to always provide access ways in case of fire incidents.
Also speaking, acting MD/CEO of Abuja Market Management Limited, Engr Abbas Yakubu, stressed the importance of fire safety in markets, reminding the participants of incidents at Kubwa, Karmo, Deidei, as well as Next Cash & Carry, where goods worth billions of naira were lost.
The Leader of the Nigerian Traders, Wuse Market branch, Okorie IkechukwuvRaphael, said efforts were on to provide renewable energy in the market which would eliminate generator usage.
