The FCT administration has embarked on the reconstruction and rehabilitations of roads in both city centre as well as the rural areas of the Federal Capital Territory. Some of these areas which the on-going road projects is currently taken place are the Karshi- Apo road, Gwagwalada- Yaba -Kpache road, Gwawalada- Dobi- Izom road, and the Gwagwalada- Kuje road.The city centre consist of express way from the Villa round about, Good Luck Jonathan Express Way, expansion of the Airport road, Murtala Muhammad Express Way, as well as constructions of several overhead bridges in the city centre. All of these are being carried out by the FCT administration under the office of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
While briefing journalists on the projects, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Umar Gambo Jibrin, said that the FCTA has concentrated on completing and opening up of on-going roads under construction within and outside the metropolis so as to ease traffic flow in the territory.
“One can only imagine the benefits to be derived from the completed brigades and roads most especially to those who transit to it,” he said.
Daily Trust took a trip round these roads to access the amount of work that is being carried out at each site within the city centre and rural areas as well. The Yaba- Kpache road project is located in the Abaji Area Council in the northern part of the FCT. The road project has a total length of 6km and connects Yaba town and the popular Kpache village in between which is located at the site of the FCT fishing festival.
According to the Director, Satellite Towns Development Department, Victoria Imande, said that the execution of the Yaba- Kpache road was as a result of the need to upgrade the status of the fishing festival that is being held annually by the FCT indigenes in that location.
“It is one of the projects that as soon as the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Musa Bello came on board, he released the sum of 914,189,220 and the project rook a new life because this is one road that is of economic value to the FCT, it was awarded to COAN (W.A) limited in 2015,” she said.
Imande also explained that as soon as the project is completed, activities of the fishing festival which has been suspended for some few years now will resume fully on an annual basis. “It will also enhance the agricultural activities in that areas as farmers will be able to transport the crops with ease to the city to sell their farm products so that was what informed the emergence of this particular road,” she added.
Also,the engineer supervising the project site, Felix Jacobs said the 6km road from Yaba to Kpache is a swampy area which needs a lots of patience and intelligence to build. He further commended the contractors that are handling the project for a job well done.
