FCTA demolishes worship centres, warehouses, says no compensation for owners

The taskforce on city sanitation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday stormed Zaudina community in Jiwa, Abuja Municipal Area Council, where it pulled down illegal structures, including worship places and warehouses at a land swap infrastructure model corridor.

 Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the Minister of FCT, Ikharo Attah, while fielding questions from journalists, also said no compensation would be paid to those affected.

He said those who erected the structures were mostly non-indigenes and that the policy for compensation was meant solely for FCT natives.

 Attah said, “This is part of our activities around this district; to clear the encroachment on the land swap infrastructure model”’

The Director, Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, revealed that over 500 houses, warehouses and worship centres were removed from Friday last week to Monday.

“This is the continuation of what we started last week. Clearing illegal structures along the infrastructure corridor, we have to come and concluded it today,’’ he said.
