The senior boys of FOSLA Academy Karshi began their campaign in the football event of the ongoing FCT Schools Sports Festival with a resounding 3-0 victory over Government Secondary School Karshi in the match played yesterday morning at the GSS Karu Centre.
In the opening match of the senior boys’ football event played on Monday, February 3, the host school GSS Karu edged GDSS Karu 6-5 on penalties.
However, FOSLA Academy boys needed no penalties to beat their opponents as they put three past their neighbours to underscore their dominance in the FCT.
Inspired by the presence of their proprietor and former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, Ganiyu Abdulkareem opened the scoring for FOSLA in the 17th minute, Enyo Ojo Abah doubled the lead in the 27th minute of the second half before Abdulkadir Mohammed sealed the victory with the third goal in the 35th minute, which was five minutes from the regulation time.
In his post-match interview, the coach of FOSLA Academy, Gilbert Igwe expressed satisfaction with the performance of his boys but said there was still room for improvement.
“This is just the opening match for us. So, even as we have won convincingly, I am expecting more from my players. There is always room for improvement,” he said.
In the second match of the day, GSS Nyanya inspired by Yahaya Abdullahi defeated Great King David 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended in a goalless draw.
