FCT: Man stabs friend to death over phone found during hunger protest

A man identified as Muazu Bala has allegedly stabbed his friend to death over a handset they claimed to have found furing the last huger protest at Unguwar Tipper garage in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of the area, Shehu Usman, who is also a vigilante member, said the incident happened on Tuesday, around 10:37 pm.

He said a misunderstanding ensued between the suspect, who accused the deceased of selling an android phone they both claimed to have recovered during the last hunger protests in the area recently.

He said the suspect claimed to have handed over the phone to his deceased friend and the deceased later sold the phone without his consent and pocketed the money.

According to him, the suspect had approached the deceased and asked him about the phone, threatening to deal with the deceased if he failed to produce the phone.

He said, “Not until at about 10:34 pm on Tuesday, when information came that the suspect followed the deceased to a drinking joint and engaged him in a fight and stabbed him with a knife.”

He said the suspect fled after stabbing the deceased at the drinking joint, saying the victim was later taken to a private hospital in the area.

Bala said the victim later died on Wednesday around 11pm, while his remains had been buried by his relations.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine could not be reached for comment on the incident at the time of filing the report.
