FCT inter-Area Councils cadet handball tourney ends today

The 2024 edition of the FCT Inter-Area Council cadet handball championship will end today with all four 3rd place matches to be decided in the morning session while the final in four categories will be held in the evening beginning from 4pm at the Area 10 Sports Complex, Garki, Abuja.

The tournament began on Monday, with the arrival of teams; but two Area Councils, Bwari and Kuje were conspicuously absent,  having failed to enter teams for the cadet championships, for Under-12 and Under-15 Boys and Girls.

Consequently, four Area Councils namely Abuja Municipal, Abaji, Kwali and Gwagwalada are competing for laurels in the annual competition which began on Tuesday.

SPONSOR AD

Meanwhile, a couple of partners have weighed in their support for the successful organization of the competition.

One of them, Hand2Hand Sports Foundation which kitted the teams and sponsored the competition last year, has given out match balls for the ongoing tournaments, with a promise to give scholarships to eight of the top players.

The president of Hand2Hand Foundation, Richard Agbonifo, said two of the best players in each of the four Area Councils will be enrolled into the Academic Scholarships of the foundation.

For his untiring support for the game, Agbonifo was specially recognised by the Secretary of FCT Handball Association, Mrs. Hulda Nkwocha.

The other partners are Mr Jibril Saidu, the representative of North Central Zone on the board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) and an anonymous donor who supported the organisers with cash.
