FCT Cricket Association completes training for schools’ Game Masters

To revive cricket in secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Cricket Association has completed the training of selected Game Masters from various schools, just two weeks after stakeholders meeting with school principals.

Eighteen Game Masters from 13 secondary schools participated in the three-day introductory cricket coaching course.

The newly appointed FCT cricket coach, Olisa Egwatu, led the training sessions, which covered the fundamentals of cricket, including understanding the game and mastering the basic skills. He also taught participants how to organise and teach these basics to their students.

Deputy Director of Sports at the FCT Education Board, Lukas Innocent, praised the association for introducing cricket to schools, emphasizing that such collaborations would aid in the sport’s development across the FCT.

Chairman of the FCT Cricket Association and former president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Engineer Emeka Onyeama, expressed gratitude to the FCT Education Board for supporting the revival of cricket in the territory.

He also appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to allocate land for the construction of a cricket oval where inter-school competitions can be held.

To equip the participants for their role in promoting the sport, cricket training gear such as balls, bats, helmets, gloves, leg guards, and wickets were distributed to the Game Masters for use in training their students.
