The six area councils in the FCT last Thursday, shared N147, 851,727.51m at their second Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting for the month of May.
City News recalled that the councils shared N209m for the month of April, 2016, which was the first allocation under the current dispensation of the newly elected chairmen.
The JAAC meeting was presided over by the FCT permanent secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye.
City News gathered that Abaji got N33, 642, 450.51m; Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) N8, 797, 892. 95m; Bwari got N13, 998, 435m 15m; Kwali, N30, 261, 76.89m, while Kuje got N28, 155, 590.77m and Gwagwalada N50, 588, 378.31m.
Meanwhile, one of the council chairmen, who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity, yesterday, decried the low councils’ allocation, saying that it was preventing the area councils from embarking on infrastructure projects.
“All our expectations are that things will improve but the amount I received can’t even pay half salaries of staff of my council, not to even talk of embarking on projects for people that voted for us,” he said.
