FCT CARES empowers 5, 054 residents with business grants

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (FCT CARES) programme has empowered 5, 054 beneficiaries for its social transfer and livelihood grants.

Dr Luka Maji Ayuba, head of unit FCT CARES cash transfer initiative, made the disclosure during the flag off ceremony and distribution of debit cards to beneficiaries in Abuja.

He said 3, 650 beneficiaries received grants for social transfer while 1,404 beneficiaries received livelihood grants, bringing the total to 5, 054 beneficiaries.

He said , “For social transfer, it is N20, 000 bi- monthly for each beneficiary but for livelihood grant, it is between N50, 000 to N135, 000 per person, depending on the category of business.”

He advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grants to enable them have a turnaround for their social and economic status .

Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, Minister of State FCT, said the initiative was geared towards supporting families to cushion the effect of COVID-19 , the global economic down-turns as well as effect of the Ukrainian war.
