Father, 2 sons killed in Benue

A father alongside his two sons were on Thursday murdered on their way back from the farm by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Ore community at Ore Egbeba road of Apa-Agila council ward in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

Our correspondent reports that incident of killings have occurred repeatedly in some areas of Ado bordering Ebonyi State where boundary disputes continued to unsettle the inhabitants while there had also been reported cases of herders invasions.

 Locals said the latest killing of the three family members identified as Mr. Enogu, Chigbo Enogu and Sunday Enogu, was one murder too many as people in the area can no longer move freely to do their own things.

 The villagers said the deceased went to their farm and were attacked and murdered while returning home after the day’s work.

 Chairman of Ado LGA, James Oche, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Makurdi, saying that he received the news of the murder of the three family members with great shock.

 Oche said the matter was promptly reported to security agencies whose personnel are already on the trail of the perpetrators even as he further disclosed that a few arrests had been made and the suspects would help with the ongoing investigation.

 The chairman, however, urged the people of the area to remain peaceful and law abiding as he assured them that his administration was committed to protecting the lives and property of the people of Ado.

 Contacted, spokesperson for the Police Command in Benue, DSP Catherine Anene, also confirmed the incident.
