Fashion has many faces, many languages, many perspectives as deep and vast as the sea. In the world of fashion there are many intricacies and there has never been a consensus as to what constitutes true fashion. Fashion means different things to different people thus many descriptions and definitions have been put forward.

For the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s leading streetwear fashion brand, Rooomxix, Gbenga Adeyefa, fashion is a reflection of self worth and inner self.

“I see fashion as a creative way of expressing who we are and the creative idea you think about . To be considered fashionable for me boils down to you being able to stand out in your fashion pieces and rocking it with swag and confidence,” he said.

“For me, being fashionable goes beyond just wearing clothes , whenever I see a person wearing an eye-catching fashion piece depending on the style , it can give me an idea of the kind of personality the person has. Fashion is what you wear, style is how you wear it while beauty is an intangible quality and also a measure of how well one’s style is pulled off,” he added.

Adeyefa declared that his brand, Rooomxix has been largely instrumental to bringing streetwear fashion from the underground in Nigeria to the mainstream.

“Rooomxix was quick to react to the Streetwear wave in Nigeria. It is most times assumed that Streetwear is a trend but it is an uprising department in fashion. We have been able to build our business model to adapt and further facilitate the transition of Streetwear from an underground movement to the mainstream,” he asserted.

Established in 2018, Rooomxix, formerly known as rooom19 started off as a business partnership agreement between Gbenga Adeyefa and Fejiro Hanu Agbodje – who was Gbenga’s customer before the partnership began. Both grew the brand into a premium standing in the fashion industry. Fortune Spurgeon joined the team in 2019 and added his creative expertise to the business , and the first change made was changing the brand name from Rooom19 to Rooomxix.
