The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC), Yobe State Command, has mediated over 50 cases resulting from clashes between farmers and herders in the last nine months across the 17 LGAs of the state.
The state’s Commandant of NSCDC, Adamu Idris Zakari, disclosed this to newsmen at the first convocation of security stakeholders on tackling issues that militate against the sustainability of food security organised by the command.
Mr Zakari said the state had recorded about 50 to 60 cases of clashes between the two parties, but that the state command under agro rangers had resolved over 90 per cent of the cases amicably without bloodshed.
He said the command organised the event to highlight the importance of peaceful coexistence among farmers and herders.

He called on the farmers’ associations and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) to collaborate with the command for food security and socio-economic development of the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), promised to brief the governor on the need to fortify the agro rangers with motorcycles for easy operations.
