Farmer-herder clash is climate related, not tribal- Kebbi gov

Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has appealed to the media to critically interrogate the issue of farmer-herder clash stressing that it is a climate change issue and not tribal as widely presented in the news.

The governor stated this on Sunday when the minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed paid him a courtesy call visit.

Bagudu said the occupational practice of the herders and farmers have changed with the change in climate noting that their usual practice has been distorted.
 
He also said it requires some transition in thinking for them to adjust.
 
"Their occupational practice has changed. What they used to do and how can not be done anymore. Realistically they must be helped because it takes some thinking for them to adjust" he said.
 
He therefore urged the media to interrogate the problem as it is to help proffer a lasting solution to the issue.
 
Speaking earlier, minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed his visit to the state is to show Nigerians the grand strides Kebbi State has made in its agricultural revolution.
 
He said in just 2 years farmers in the country have increased 12 million from 5million adding that the success story of the agricultural revolution of the country cannot of be complete without Kebbi state.
 
"But if we say this, detractors will not believe, that’s why we have brought the media to see and witness first hand what is happening in the state".
 
Minister of Information and Culture is on a two day visit with Journalists to Birnin Kebbi to inspect the rice revolution in the state.
