Farmer collapses after hoodlums steal his N.4m beniseed in FCT

A middle aged farmer, identified as Baba Alhassan suddenly collapsed after suspected hoodlums stole his beniseed worth N440,000 at the Ashara community in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of Ashara, Saidu Ibrahim, said the incident happened last Thursday, when the suspected hoodlums broke into the man’s store where two bags of beniseed and some harvested farm produce were stored.

He said the hoodlums quietly broke into the store overnight when residents were asleep and removed two bags of the beniseed worth N440,000 and escaped.

“It was when the farmer went to open the store where he normally stores his harvested farm produce in order to bring out the beniseed so that he will convey them to Kwali market to sell that he discovered two bags had been stolen,” he said.

According to him, the farmer suddenly collapsed after he could not find the beniseed, saying some neighbours quickly intervened and poured him water until he later regained himself.

“And I believe that the man collapsed not because of anything, but because of how expensive a bag of beniseed is being sold at the market, which cost between N250, 000 and N260,000 per bag. And the man wanted to convey the two bags to sell in order to use the money and pay for one of his child that secure admission into university,” he said.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine is yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing the report.
