Farmer bags 3 years for stealing goat

A 28-year-old farmer was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Gombe State magistrates’ court sitting at Kwadon Town after he was found guilty of stealing a she-goat.

The farmer, Aliyu Buba, who is residing at Garin Waziri Village of Yamaltu Deba LGA of the state, was arraigned before the court over alleged trespass and theft.

The police First Information Report (FIR), stated that the convict had on August 12, at about 02:00am, broke into the house of one Tela Yahaya of the same village and stole a she-goat valued at N10,000.

The accused pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Corporal Abba Mathias, told the court that the offense was contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code.

In his verdict, Chief Magistrate Bala Ciroma sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment or an option to pay N20,000.

The court also ordered him to pay the sum of N15, 000 to the owner of the goat.

Meanwhile, Chief Magistrate Ciroma sentenced one Shamsudden Hamisu (25) of Nasarawo Quarters of Gombe Metropolis to three years for being in possession of stolen beans.

It was earlier alleged that on August 17, at about 08:30pm, Hamisu broke into a shop at Kwadon Market and stole beans valued at N9,000.

Hamisu pleaded guilty to the one-count charge, which according to police prosecutor, Abba Mathias, contravened Section 286 of the Penal Code.

The magistrate sentenced him summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code to three years in prison or an option to pay N20,000 as fine under Section 287 of the Penal Code law.

The court also ordered hamisu to pay the sum of N10,000 to the owner of the store and to return the recovered beans to the owner.
