A 21-year-old farmer was yesterday arraigned before a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court in Benue State for allegedly kidnapping 11-year-old Zungwem Jime.
Ipavyima Orye was said to have kidnapped the little girl from her guardian, one Iorchir Mkovur in 2012.
The court heard that the guardian had requested for the girl from her mother, Mrs Ishuen Mbachilin who willingly obliged, but soon after Mkovur took custody of the girl, there was a rumour that the guardian planned with four other persons to use her rituals.
It was gathered that the girl later disappeared and that when her mother asked the guardian to produce her, he resorted to threats.
It was further gathered that the police, during investigation discovered that the victim was kidnapped by the accused without the knowledge of her guardian.
According to the prosecution, the suspected kidnapper, Orye, confessed to the crime.
But when the case was mentioned yesterday, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Cyril Enyi, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, and adjourned the matter to October 26.
