FAO appoints Nigerian to chair African soil partnership

The United Nation’s Food Agricultural Organization (FAO) has appointed a Nigerian Professor of Agriculture, Victor Okechukwu Chude, as chairman of African Soil Partnership for second mandate.

According to a letter signed by Ronald Vargas, secretary, Global Soil Partnership, the appointment is for a period of two years, spanning June, 2018 to May, 2020.

As the chairman of African Soil Partnership, Chude’s responsibility would include, to encourage Regional Soil Partnerships (RSP), execution of regional implementation plan and support the organisation and chair the RSP workshops.

Chude holds a Master of Science and doctoral degrees in soil science from the University of Ibadan.

Also, he obtained a bachelor of science in plant/soil science from University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He has diverse working experience having meritoriously served as a senior research fellow in Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Professor at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and consultant to the National Programme for Food Security (NPFS)/FAO over the last 15 years.
