Family of slain Benue musician demand body from police

The family of alleged murdered musician, Terungwa Albert Ikon, popularly known as ‘Ortrees’ has urged the police in Benue State to uncover his real killer and produce his dead body.

Ortrees allegedly went missing on April 13 within the North Bank vicinity of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The police said a few days ago that the command had arrested 13 suspected cultists who confessed to the murder of the upcoming musician and threw his body into the River Benue.

But, the family in a telephone conversation with our correspondent in Makurdi said there was more to what the police had so far extracted from the suspects in their custody.

Older brother of Ortrees and a musician/entertainer, Orduen Ikon Andrew popularly known as OD Woods, who spoke on behalf of the family, said there were still many questions begging for answers.

He said, “Can the Police help us find the guy who pulled the trigger so I would know what happened to my brother? If they had shot him and pushed him into the river, the body should have floated in 24-hours. And that time, it was April 13 when the rains hadn’t yet started so the river was not full and nobody saw a dead body float on the water?

“I don’t want this case treated as if there is a far solution to it when they can find the person said to have shot my brother. We don’t know why the body too as claimed to have been shot has not been found. There is more to it.”

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, in an earlier statement, disclosed that the police was in the pursuit of the gang leader alleged to have masterminded the killing of the youngster.

Anene said, “During investigation, detectives from Operation Zenda Joint Task Force arrested one Victor Ahambe, Chichi Maxwell, Andrew Onche Okoliko, Terdoo Tersugh and nine others in connection with the case.

“These suspects confessed to be members of the same secret cult and had participated in the killing of the victim at the River Benue bank.

“They stated further that on 13/4/2022 while they were drinking in a beer parlour at Terguma Street, North Bank, Makurdi, their leader; named “Doggy” came with the Terungwa Ikon and bought a drink for him to drink, ordered them to the River Benue bank where he robbed the deceased of his belongings, removed a pistol from his pocket and shot him on the head. Other members contributed to the killing by cutting him with a matchet and the corpse was dropped in the river to float,” Anene stated.
