Family of murdered Yobe woman seeks justice

The family of murdered housewife, Ammi Adamu Mamman, in Damaturu, Yobe State, has said it wants justice for the deceased, noting that her husband, Abubakar Musa (43), is a prime suspect.

City & Crime gathered that the 42-year-old late Ammi was killed on January 4, 2024, in her matrimonial bed in the Bra Bra Housing Estate in Damaturu.

It was gathered that on Thursday, January 4, Ammi’s corpse was “discovered” by her husband who reported the matter to the police, saying that she was stabbed with an object on her neck.

The spokesman of the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdul Kareem, said the incident took place around 5am while the couple was sleeping in the same bed as reported by the husband.

Kareem further said, “He was sleeping on the same bed beside his wife and he heard her shouting. When he woke up he discovered that she was stabbed with an object on her neck, resulting in heavy bleeding and death.

“He saw a man standing with a knife in his hand; when he engaged the man and started fighting with him, two other persons came to the rescue of the killer and helped him to run away. This is what he told us.”

However, an elder sister to the deceased, Hauwa Fani, said, “The sad thing about it is that after her death, we kept hearing so many rumours about how she had been giving him money, he had stolen her money, and neighbors even said that sometimes they heard their voices like he was beating her and all that.

‘‘We all raise our voices and want justice for her. We pray that the government will give us justice. Let the right thing be done.

“From all indications, he (husband) is the prime suspect. Maybe there was an argument; it seems like the killing was planned over time.”

The deceased’s mother, Fatima Adamu Mamman, said her son-in-law could have killed his wife (her daughter) because he was a hot-tempered person; and urged security agencies to investigate.

She added that, “I was at home when I got information that my daughter was killed. I don’t know who killed her. Later I was told that it was her husband that killed her.

“The last time I saw her she didn’t tell me that she had an issue with him (husband), but she told me that he was a hot-tempered person and could kill a person.

“There was a time before they got married, he (husband) drove her car and hit the car of her ex-lover, saying he would kill him.”
