Family of detained biz man petitions COAS, others

The family of a businessman detained by the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State has petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, the National Security Adviser and the National Human Rights Commission over “unlawful detention.”
The petition, signed by Emmanuel Ejiofor of Intercessors Chambers, indicated that Mallam Babagana Modu Isah Gudubali was arrested and detained at Giwa Barracks since August 2, 2015 “for no alleged specific offence.”
The petition stated that Gudubali was arrested by soldiers because his customer, identified as Abbagana, who had purchased some food items from him, ran into the bush when he saw them.
The petition stated that Abbagana’s van that was conveying the goods he bought from Gudubali broke down near Gubio town, but on sighting soldiers who wore slippers, he ran into the bus, mistaking them for Boko Haram members.
The driver and conductor of the vehicle, who were arrested, then led the soldiers to the shop of Gudubali where he was also arrested, later detained and asked to produce his customer that ran away.
“According to one of his brothers, Ali Modu Gudubali, …despite having located and handed over Abbagana to the men of Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole, through the help of civilian JTF, all efforts to secure the release of Babagana had proved abortive,” the petition revealed.
The family appealed to all relevant authorities to help and secure his immediate release.
