A family of five and six other people have been killed on their farms at Waya community in Jato-Aka of Turan council ward in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened on Thursday while they were working on their various farms, however, the search for their bodies began at night until the early hours of Friday when 11 corpses were reportedly recovered.
Villagers told journalists that the incident became public knowledge when relatives of the deceased started raising the alarm over the whereabouts of their loved ones when they did not return from their farms.
They added that a search party immediately went to their various farms, only to discover dead bodies at different locations.
“As we speak, search is still ongoing for more missing persons and there is an indication that more bodies would be found,” a villager said.
The villagers listed names of some of the recovered bodies severely mutilated to include Gbaeren Orsoo; Terdoo Tsega; Bemdoo Tsega; Abacha Tsega; Terkaa Tsega; Aôndoaseer Tyov; Iorhen Atim and Aôndowase Igba.
The chairman of Kwande Local Government Area, Mrs Tartor Chianson, said she could confirm the recovery of eight dead bodies before leaving the area on her way to Makurdi to report the incident.
The police public relations officer, Benue command, SP Catherine Anene, could not comment on the matter at the time of filing this report as she did not respond to calls and text messages from our correspondent.
