The family of a 25-year-old boy, Aliyu Bukhari, who allegedly died under the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Sokoto have called for a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of his death.
It was gathered that Bukhari was arrested by the operatives on the 27th of November at his bread shop.
It was said that the deceased was linked with the kidnapping of a 4-year old boy, Umar Bashir, of which the sum of N150,000 was paid as ransome before he was released.
Daily Trust gathered that the GSM line used in negotiating the payment of the ransome was traced to the deceased.
However, the deceased had lost his phone and did a welcome back, said the spokesman of the family, Bashar Isa.
Addressing pressmen, Isa said the operatives came in three Toyota Hilux, and fired several shots in the air before arresting Bukhari.
“On the 28th of November, some of us went to the DSS to know why he was arrested and to see him but our demands were not granted until on 30th when one Chika Abubakar was allowed to see him and told us he met him in a terrible condition,” Isa said
He added that in November, one operative of the department came to their family house that they were invited to their office.
“On reaching there, we were told that Bukhari is dead but they did not tell us what led to his death.
“We are appealing to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Sultan of Sokoto, the DG, DSS and the Attorney General of the Federation as well as human right organizations to investigate the matter and bring those involve in the killing of our brother to justice,” he said
When contacted, the state Director of DSS, Ibrahim Bello, said they would address a press conference in due course.
