The policeman who was killed during the bank robbery in Iree town, Osun State has been buried on Friday.

The deceased, Jeleel Aladeokin, better known as Kay, was one of the constabularies recruited into the police from the area.

The armed robbers, on Thursday, attacked branches of United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Access bank and a police station in the town.

The armed robbers destroyed the doors of the bank with explosives to gain entry into the bank, but they ran away when policemen got to the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the bank robbery.

He said, “Armed robbers numbering about twenty came in commando-like style with about four vehicles and simultaneously attacked Iree Divisional Police Headquarters with explosives and several gun firing in an attempt to disorganize, incapacitate and destabilise the police who were in a fierce gun battle with them while robbing Access Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA) simultaneously.”

The police spokesperson said the attempt by the armed robbers to gain access to the armoury of the Police was repelled.
