The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed a Professor of Chemistry, Prof. Oluwole Babafemi Familoni, as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research) of the institution.
A statement made available to Daily Trust by the university, said Familoni’s appointment is in accordance with the provisions of the University of Lagos Act (1967).
The statement reads: “As specifically amended in Section 4 and 5 in the Universities (miscellaneous provision) Act 1993 is sequel to his nomination and election at the University Senate meeting held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. The tenure of the appointment will be for two years with effect from Tuesday, April 3, 2018.”
A Professor of Chemistry, Familoni, 60, is an alumnus of UNILAG where he obtained B.Sc. Honours in Chemistry with Second Class Upper Division in 1981, M.Phil. in Chemistry in 1986 and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1990. He was appointed Lecturer II in 1990 and full Professor in 2004.
“In the university, Familoni was Sub-dean of the Faculty of Science (2000–2002), Head of Department of Chemistry (2002–2005), Dean of Faculty of Science (2008–2012) and Chairman, Housing Committee of the University.”
