The family members of residents abducted by kidnappers in Dei-Dei community in the FCT, have demanded for action from the security agencies to rescue the victims.

Daily Trust reported last week how 23 residents of the Livestock residential layout, located on the edge of the Abuja popular Livestock market in the area, were abducted between 8 and 9 pm on the penultimate Saturday.

Seven of the victims, comprising of a woman and a six-month-old baby were released an hour later by the bandits along their way into the bush, while demanding N50 million ransom, on each of the others still in their captivity.

In an interview with City and Crime yesterday, one of the family members, Mustapha Teidi, whose four daughters are still held by the kidnappers, has called for security action by the government to rescue them.

He lamented that as of yesterday, there was no known effort by the government to rescue their abducted family members, who are languishing in the bush, believed to be not far away from the community.

He also explained that even though the kidnappers have dropped the ransom amount to N10,000 from the initial N50 million for each person, the amount is still beyond their reach.

Meanwhile, a team of the joint security taskforce has raided shanties close to the area, where some small earnings people, mostly said to be labourers with the Dei-Dei abattoir, were residing, and set the place ablaze.

One of the affected people, Yahaya Wanzam, a local barber in the community, said in addition to losing the place he used as home with his family, he also lost a number of animals to the incident including goats and chickens.

A kiosk owner, Abubakar Idris, said he lost his provision sales and money trusted to him by some associates, during the operation.

He accused the task force of luring him initially, that his property would be spared only to destroy it later

Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police spokeswoman, promised to get back to our reporter after her meeting yesterday but did not up till the time of filing this report.
