FACT-CHECK: Did Buhari vote PDP in Saturday’s presidential poll?

A Facebook page, Nigeria’s Peoples Parliament which posted a photo of the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari, raising his ballot paper which showed he had voted for the Peoples Democratic Party at Saturday’s presidential poll, is digitally altered and a deliberate hoax, a fact-check investigation by CrossCheck Nigeria, has shown.

CrossCheck Nigeria (CCN), a collaboration of newsrooms in Nigeria which includes Daily Trust, also confirms that the picture was dug out from the 2015 presidential election and altered.

CCN confirmed that the Facebook group posted an altered photo of President Buhari through the following checks:

  1. CrossCheck Nigeria, through an image reverse search on the photo, confirms picture was dug out from the 2015 presidential election.
  2. The original also shows that President had voted for his party, All Progressives Congress, at the election, and not PDP.
  3. At Daura, Katsina State where President Buhari visited to cast his vote for this year’s election, he was dressed in a dark blue native attire.

The picture was posted on February 23 at 05:20 pm. It has since gained 164 likes, 178 comments and 103 shares bringing it to a total of 445 interactions.
