Facebook bans Trump for ‘two weeks’

Facebook has banned President Donald Trump from the platform for at least ‘two weeks’.

The chief executive of the social media platform Mark Zuckerberg said the decision is necessary because of the US leader’s efforts to incite violence in the US capital this week.

The ban which was for 24 hours on Wednesday was extended because Mr trump was unrelenting in his ‘incitement’ efforts.

Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page that the ban was extended because Trump “use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.”

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” he wrote.

“Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”
